BIO
During the past twenty years while working at museums nationally in the U.S., Charles Lovell has continued his pursuit of creative work in fine art photography. After working in large-format silver gelatin and color photography for over twenty years, in 2007 during an artist-in-residence program at the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice, Italy, Lovell began exploring digital photography with a small-format camera.
Upon return to the U.S., Lovell learned digital printing and exhibited the Venice work at a solo exhibition at the Taos Center For the Arts, New Mexico. After moving to New Orleans in 2008, he immediately began photographing using a larger format digital camera and has transitioned solely to a digital practice. In 2015, he began working full-time solely on photography and returned as a resident artist to the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice. Over the last 20 years Lovell’s work has been included in twenty-five solo exhibitions and sixty-five group exhibitions in Australia, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and throughout the United States. In 2015 his work was exhibited in five group exhibitions, added to three public collections, and reviewed in The New York Times.
