PhotoNOLA’s Portfolio Review program offers photographers the chance to present their work to influential members of the photographic community. Twenty-minute face-to-face meetings with gallery owners, editors, publishers, and museum curators from throughout the U.S. and abroad provide photographers with networking opportunities, critical advice, and guidance for bringing their work to a larger audience. The 2021 reviews will offer both in-person and online options.
Reviews are a wonderful opportunity for photographers of all levels to begin important relationships with established professionals in the photographic field. Sharing work with reviewers and peers can result in new opportunities to exhibit, publish and sell work.
As a result of PhotoNOLA, past participants have been hired for editorial assignments, awarded solo shows, featured in PDN, B&W and Diffusion magazines, picked up by galleries for representation, and had work purchased for museum acquisitions. The PhotoWALK offers participating photographers a chance to share their portfolios with the general public, additional reviewers, and each other. At the end of the weekend, reviewers rank their favorite portfolios. The photographer earning the most votes is awarded the PhotoNOLA Review Prize.
Each year the list of confirmed reviewers is publicized on or around August 1. Registration typically opens in the first week of September, and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
PhotoNOLA is not a juried review, however participants should be emerging to mid-career level photographers, with a solid body of work and a history of exhibitions and/or publications.
PhotoNOLA 2021 Portfolio Reviews will take place on Friday, December 10 and Saturday, December 11. A virtual option on December 4 & 5 will be available soon.
