Luna Press is dedicated to the publishing of illustrated books — based on Baudelaire’s idea that there are “correspondences” between the arts and that the best and most natural appreciation of a work of art may be a response to it in another. Luna Press’ goal is to emphasize the correspondence between words and images, thereby creating beautiful books.

Book signing celebrating the release How Close by Brice Bischoff
Founded in 2023, (w)hole is a small independent photobook publisher based in Los Angeles, California, specializing in small edition publications from artists working in the expanded fields of photography. Our press imagines new contexts for the photo book while nodding to Southern California’s unique legacy of conceptual photography. Our designs follow the logic of each publishing project and take on unusual forms, such as a geological survey portfolio or a user’s manual. The photography we highlight elaborates on the structures of cinema and performance while creating the immersive quality of a short story or novel.
(w)hole has proudly participated in Printed Matter’s 2023 LAABF, 2023 ACID-FREE Art Book Market, and the International Center of Photography’s 2023 Photobook Fest, and has hosted book launch events at MOCA, Los Angeles, and the Fulcrum Press, Los Angeles. (w)hole are stocked in the following bookstores: Arcana, Lang Books, MOCA Stores, and Skylight Books.

Jonathan Traviesa / 8th Ward Press
Low Hustle Hot Center: Contemporary Canal Street in Downtown New Orleans
“Low Hustle Hot Center” is an expanded look at downtown Canal Street in 21st century New Orleans. The photographs are shot entirely on black and white film, which brings the work in conversation with the rich, historical imaging of New Orleans. The photographs strive to describe not just the physicality of the urban environment and its inhabitants (however fleeting), but also the complex psychological tone of the area, too. Of specific interest is how the social fabrics and economic dynamics along Canal Street have evolved in its present moment to become one of the South’s busiest and most diverse, urban arenas.
The book is published by 8th Ward Press and features contributing essays by Leslie Spillman, Richard Campanella, and Jonathan Traviesa.

A Better Life for Their Children: Julius Rosenwald, Booker T. Washington, and 4,978 Schools That Changed America (University of Georgia Press, 2021) Photographs and Stories by Andrew Feiler
with a foreword by Congressman John Lewis
Born to Jewish immigrants, Julius Rosenwald rose to lead Sears, Roebuck & Company and turn it into the world’s largest retailer. Born into slavery, Booker T. Washington became the founding principal of Tuskegee Institute. In 1912 the two men launched an ambitious program to partner with black communities across the segregated South to build public schools for African American children. This watershed moment in the history of philanthropy—one of the earliest collaborations between Jews and African Americans—drove dramatic improvement in African American educational attainment and fostered the generation who became the leaders and foot soldiers of the civil rights movement.
