Yaelle S. Amir has worked as a curator and researcher for over a decade, focusing primarily on socially-engaged photography, video, and installation with a strong focus on community engagement. She has held curatorial and research positions at several institutions including the International Center of Photography, Museum of Modern Art, and New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. She has curated exhibitions at Artists Space, CUE Art Foundation, Center for Book Arts, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, Franklin Street Works, ISE Cultural Foundation, Marginal Utility, and the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University, among others. Yaelle is the recipient of several curatorial fellowships and awards by national organizations from The Luminary and Paul Artspace in St. Louis, to BRIC Media and the Art & Law Program in New York. At Newspace, Yaelle manages exhibitions, lectures, and public programs.
Newspace Center for Photography connects and inspires people by offering an accessible place to create, learn, and engage in the evolution of the image. Newspace is a multidimensional photography resource center and community hub for students, working artists, professional photographers, educators, and photo-enthusiasts of all types.The Center’s gallery mounts 12 exhibits annually. As a portfolio reviewer, she offers participants guidance in editing and can assist photographers with appropriate ways of presenting their portfolios and work for consideration by collectors. She is most interested in viewing cohesive bodies of work and photography that is suitable for exhibition and sale within the private sector. She is not interested in viewing stock, fashion, nudes or floral based imagery.

Roy Flukinger is the Senior Research Curator at the Harry Ransom Center at The University of Texas at Austin, where he has served as a curator since 1977. While serving as department head of photography he was responsible for the management of the collections and archives. He has taught and lectured at The University as well as at a variety of other organizations and institutions of higher learning. His most recent publications were on Arnold Newman and on the Center‚Äôs Gernsheim Collection, and he has mos recently completed co-curating a gallery-wide exhibition on their Magnum Photos collection. He consults with a variety of institutions and researchers; serves as juror, reviewer and evaluator of contemporary events, groups and support organizations; and continues to assist in research, management, conservation and development matters for the department.
He is interested in all forms of contemporary photography from black and white to color and digital, with an additional interest in modern work employing historical, alternative processes. He is most interested in seeing artistic and photojournalistic bodies of work, and less interested in purely commercial work, though he still remains pretty dang enthusiastic about all disciplines of photography.

Shane Lavalette is an American photographer, the founding Publisher/Editor of Lavalette, and the Director of Light Work. He holds a BFA from Tufts University in partnership with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Lavalette’s photographs have been shown widely, including exhibitions at the High Museum of Art, Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, Aperture Gallery, Montserrat College of Art, The Carpenter Center for Visual Arts at Harvard University, The Center for Photography at Woodstock, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in addition to being held in private and public collections. Richard McCabe received an MFA in Studio Art from Florida State University in 1998. Also in 1998, he received a Fellowship to New York University to attend the American Photography Institute, National Graduate Seminar. Maja Orsic is Director at Robert Klein Gallery, a fine art photography gallery in Boston. Orsic studied Professional Writing and French & Francophone Studies at Carnegie Mellon University and worked in community programs and development at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, before starting at the gallery in 2010. She is especially interested in the written word as it relates to photography; specifically, how artists choose to present themselves and their work. Director since 2013, Orsic works closely with artists and collectors, serving as a matchmaker for the two. She recently curated “The Gun Show,” an exhibition featuring work by 13 New England photographers, for Boston’s 2015 Flash Forward Festival. Alan Rapp is senior editor at The Monacelli Press. He develops and edits architecture, design, and photography books. As a critic, he has written for Modern Painters, Designers & Books, The Photobook Review, Wired Design, Dwell, Urban Omnibus and numerous other publications, and contributed a foreword to Joël Tettamanti’s monograph, Works: 2001–2019 (Benteli, 2015).

Drew Sawyer is the William and Sarah Ross Soter Associate Curator of Photography at the Columbus Museum of Art. He received his Ph.D. in art history from Columbia University and has previously held positions at the Museum of Modern Art, Solomon Guggenheim Museum, and the Chazen Museum of Art. His past exhibitions include Zoe Leonard: Analogue (2015); From Bauhaus to Buenos Aires: Grete Stern and Horacio Coppola (2015); Robert Heinecken: Object Matter (2014); Walker Evans American Photographs (2013); Bill Brandt: Shadow and Light (2013); and ‚ÄòSocial Forces Visualized‚Äô: Photography and Scientific Charity, 1900-1920 (2011). He is the Arts Editor editor at Document Journal and writes regularly about the history of photography and contemporary art. Matthew Weldon Showman received his BA in the History of Art and Architecture in 2011 from the University of Pittsburgh. Having worked for the Andy Warhol Museum during the course of his undergraduate degree, he completed a fellowship with the Milton Fine Curator of Art. He also worked on special exhibition and curatorial projects at institutions in Pittsburgh including: the Carnegie Museum of Art, Society for Contemporary Craft, the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, as well as abroad at: Dulwich Picture Gallery and Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
Following graduation, Showman moved to New Orleans for the gallery assistant position at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery. The gallery is a collective environment of creative visions featuring monthly exhibitions of (inter)national, emerging to established, contemporary artists. Since its inception in 1998, the gallery has focused on forward thinking artists with a sense of purpose, mission, and message. The gallery is known for its stimulating and provocative exhibitions in a wide variety of media, having been featured in The New York Times, Art In America, The Art Newspaper, The Associated Press, ArtNews, NPR and many other international publications.

Mary Virginia Swanson is an author, educator and advisor to artists and arts organizations whose career includes exhibiting, collecting and licensing photography. In 2013, Swanson received the Focus Award for Lifetime Achievement in Photography from the Griffin Museum in Boston and the recipient of the 2014 Susan Carr Prize for Education given by ASMP. Her publications, articles, and blog on marketing opportunities for photographers are invaluable resources for photographers that can be found at www.mvswanson.com.
Ms. Swanson is happy to advise participating artists on what markets are most likely to respond positively to their imagery. In addition to viewing examples of final prints, she encourages those who meet with her to bring samples of marketing materials they are currently using to promote themselves, and/or mock-ups of catalogues / monographs in the planning stages. Sharing your website during your session will allow her to advise on its effectiveness in presenting your work to desired collectors, collecting institutions, and others.

Tom and Lois White are the Founders and Directors of Exhibit No.9, gallery and studio for contemporary art, showing the work of emerging and mid-career regional, national and international artists and photographers. Gallery events include exhibitions, seminars, artist talks and a place where artists, patrons and collectors can meet and be connected to the art world. Tom is also the Director of 9 Surf Editions, a fine art print atelier producing prints and editions for the gallery’s exhibitors as well as artists and photographers around the world. His meticulous attention to detail is the foundation of 9 Surf and has been the hallmark of the highest standard of archival giclee prints.

Tim B. Wride is the William and Sarah Ross Soter Curator of Photography at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida. Since joining the museum in 2012, Tim has originated exhibitions that have highlighted Florida photographers and coordinated the inaugural Rudin Prize which showcases contemporary photographers. He is currently working on an exhibition about Photography and the Everglades.
Prior to joining the Norton Museum, Tim was a Curator in the Department of Photographs at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) for 14 years, Tim curated over 50 exhibitions, authored and contributed to a dozen books, and has lectured, participated in panels, juried exhibitions, and provided portfolio reviews internationally. In 2004, Tim became the founding Executive Director of the No Strings Foundation, a Los Angeles-based non-profit that provides individual artist grants to U.S. photographers.
Tim is a voracious consumer of photographic images. He likes nothing better than to look at photographs and talk to smart photographers about their work.
