We are pleased to present a special print offer in time for Valentine’s Day.
Purchase S. Gayle Stevens’ Blow and receive a bonus bee tintype, nestled in its own red velvet bag. $100 plus shipping.
S. Gayle Stevens is known for creating elegant and ephemeral images using alternative and antiquarian processes. Blow is from her Calligraphy series, which features plant and animal specimens collected on her walks. The work intertwines two concepts: beautiful line drawings and the memento mori, capturing, in the artist’s own words, “shadows of what was.”
Blow is sold out in its original tintype series and has been reprinted in this exclusive edition for the PhotoNOLA Collectors Club series. The archival pigment print features a 7×7” image on 12×10” cotton rag paper. Read more about the print and the artist here.
The bees are part of Stevens’ Disappearance project, through which she aims to create greater awareness of the Colony Collapse Disorder that has been affecting hives since 2005. The photogram silhouettes are shadows of bees that once lived. Printed in wet-plate collodion on circular 2″ discs, each bee is unique.
PhotoNOLA established the Collectors Club as a fundraising initiative with a mission to encourage collecting. We believe everyone should live with great art! The program offers the public an opportunity to collect original works by contemporary photographers at an accessible price point. Proceeds support programming initiatives of PhotoNOLA, New Orleans’ annual volunteer run photography festival. We are honored that Stevens has donated these delightful “free-bees” to sweeten the pot.
