Zack Smith: The Battlefield Oak: A Year In Photographs
October 7 – December 31, 2017
Grand Opening: Saturday, Oct 14, 5-9pm
PhotoNOLA Opening: Saturday, Dec 9, 6-9pm
Please join New Orleans photographer Zack Smith at the opening of his new photography studio and workspace in Uptown New Orleans. To celebrate this new space, Zack will premier his ongoing landscape photography series “The Battlefield Oak” in a portfolio of seven new editioned images. Over the course of one year, Zack visited and photographed a lone oak tree that presides at the Historic Chalmette Battlefield, site of the Battle of New Orleans. Through the seasons of the south and his creative eye, Zack documented this tree and its yearly evolution. What he saw was a changing landscape both in nature and in his own life as a new resident of St. Bernard Parish.
Zack’s photography is collected around the United States and has shown his work at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Contemporary Arts Center, Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, and his own gallery, CANARY, from 2008-2010. He’s excited to show you his next creative endeavor.
