Earlier in her storied career, the internationally-renowned artist Kate Breakey would make black and white, silver gelatin prints and hand-color them with transparent oil paint.
Now, she photographs digitally and alters her images using Photoshop and Lightroom first to prepare them before she adds media – pastels and colored pencils – to each print, rendering each piece a unique object. As Kate herself says, “I’m still a painter at heart.”
In this three-part workshop Kate will show you exactly what she does to make her pieces from start to finish, step by step. You do not need to be a Photoshop/Lightroom expert to take this non-technical class. Kate will explain the various paper surfaces she uses, and then will demonstrate the coloring process. In this class, you will watch Kate as she walks you through her techniques and ask questions along the way. You will not be making work during the class. The key outcome is for you to take notes, ask lots of good questions and put together a toolkit for you to work your images on your own time on your own schedule.
All sessions will be recorded and made available for you to watch any time via a private channel for participants only, so that you can review the methods and steps Kate employs.
