Urban Sidewalk Installation Space (USIS) is a hub to explore the purposeful and industrious undertakings of the New Orleans art community engaged in social practice. During PhotoNOLA, USIS presents two collaborative projects.
Initiated and configured by Jan Gilbert and Debra Howell of the VESTIGES Project, trinitas brings together displaced New Orleans artists with members of their former community in a large-scale, wetlands-inspired wall installation that is about coming to terms with what’s been lost on a personal and regional scale, possibly forever.
Taking Care of Education is a digital media installation conceived by BUREAU of CHANGE artists Margot Herster and Colin Roberson with BodyMind Integrative Therapist Jennifer Growden. Its photographs and testimonies of unemployed, underemployed and work weary educators were gathered during participatory art events where BUREAU of CHANGE performs therapeutic experiences such as bubble baths, tea and kitten therapy in hopes of providing temporary respite.
