“Tribe” combines the photography of Armon Dauphin and a display of magnificent suits by his mentor/father figure, Big Chief Tyrone Casby of the Mohawk Hunters. “Tribe” is a celebration of African culture that has survived in America and is exhibited during the Lenten/ Mardi Gras season in New Orleans.
Big Chief Tyrone has the role of maintaining the value and significance of this culture and traditions of sewing, dancing and suit construction so that it will continue to be a viable part of the African American community. Armon Dauphin captures the heart and soul of this tribe and portrays the family and community bond that is evident in the processions.
For both Armon Dauphin and Big Chief Tyrone Casby, “tribe” is a part of life, a legacy and is synonymous with family.
