Sandro Miller’s “Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic Masters”
October 5 – 30, 2019
December 7 – 31, 2019
Closing Reception: Saturday, Dec 14, 6-9pm
In 2014, after nearly succumbing to cancer, photographer Sandro Miller conceived a tribute to the photographers who had inspired him in his early career. He selected 61 iconic portraits and Sandro and his team meticulously recreated every detail of the original photos. Sandro invited his friend, the actor John Malkovich, to portray the subjects in each one. Malkovich delivered an acting tour de force and the result is a stunning collaboration by two titans of their craft. Pieces include Irving Penn’s photograph of Truman Capote, Bert Stern’s photographs of Marilyn Monroe, Dorothea Lange’s image of a migrant mother, Robert Mapplethorpe’s self-portrait with a gun, and others. John Malkovich, one of the greatest actors of the 21st century, demonstrates his chameleon-like proclivity, morphing into Albert Einstein, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Bette Davis, Hitchcock, and others. Through his immense skill and Sandro’s exacting photographic eye, this exhibition pays respect to and brings us a fresh view of photographic history through the genius of a photographer and his muse.
