Revolt: Transmissions from the Social/Political battle field
Everything is in flux. Our political landscape is tattered and our accepted narratives are being redefined on a daily basis. The war is being waged in social media, online petitions, in physical protest and even on our athletic fields.
¬†¬†¬†C+J diptychs explore these cultural, ethical, political, and racial clashes taking place here and rippling throughout the Western world. Established narratives and norms are being challenged as the voices of the former “fringe” are gaining momentum within a collective questioning.
The C+J work focuses on the joinery of opposing sides and how their meeting opens a new understanding of the manifestation of these conflicts and explores the ambiguous nature of their material existence. Through their use of line, composition, and perspective captured in documentary photography of various events, rituals, customs and daily life found at home and abroad, the work seeks to give visual representation to this elusive and ever present conflict that is defining our present social/ political reality.
C+J is a collaboration of married couple Cecelia, a 6th generation New Orleanian, and long term New Orleans resident Jose Fernandes, who work out of their studio and home in the 7th ward.
