In recent decades, practices involving the placement of art in public spaces has shifted from the permanent and aesthetically focused works commissioned by government and institutions to timely and more provactive work of independent artists and small collectives. This hybrid lecture and brief tour engages recent examples of art that affect New Orleans’ public space while drawing on, and seeking to provoke community dialogue on social, community, and political issues affecting the city’s future.
International House is located at 220 Camp Street, New Orleans, LA 70130.
