Are you interested in seeing your work in print? Join acclaimed photographer and photobook maker Tammy Mercure for a hands on workshop exploring the ins and outs of self-publishing.
The one-day class will cover various publishing models, from the zine to the traditional perfect-bound photography book. Editing, sequencing, and design will be discussed, as will paper choices and binding methods. Participants will also learn about the current modes of distribution for self-published books. Guest speakers will join the class throughout the day to share their expertise on given topics.
Students will work on book layout in class, and the finished designs will be printed and bound onsite. At the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with a copy of their own book.

Students should bring their own laptops to create layout in InDesign or similar software. Please have a folder of images in a rough sequence for the start of the day. The finished designs [limited to 40 pages] will be printed onsite.

Tammy Mercure was named one of the “100 under 100: The New Superstars of Southern Art” by Oxford American magazine. She has been featured on CNN Photos, VICE, Daily Mail, NPR Big Picture Show, and more. She was published in the Guardian UK (Big Picture), Darwin magazine, and in the book “Place, Art, and Self” by Yi-Fu Tuan. She has a BA from Columbia College Chicago and an MFA from East Tennessee State University. She lives in New Orleans, Louisiana and is a member of Antenna.
After years experience working with Center for American Places and doing prepress for Oddi in Iceland projects, Tammy began to create her own books. Her first self published series from 2012 about the symbols of the American South was featured internationally on the web and in numerous shows and led to several speaking engagements. Many self published books later, including one about Waffle Houses, she continues to make her work and also produces books for Antenna’s publishing imprint.
