Eric Whitaker: Traverses

Traverses is Eric Whitaker’s ongoing survey of places in his Bywater neighborhood where regimented and unfettered elements converge. At these junctions, the interplay of shadow, line, reflection, and color can make spatial relationships difficult to parse. Whether elements are crossing through or laying across one another often becomes unclear. Tensions arise between the allure of the irrational and the countervailing need to keep the uncontrolled at bay. Alternately, a tenuous harmony emerges. The exhibition offers a view of an oft-photographed city from an unfamiliar, intimate perspective that is as much psychological as documentary.
