Opening: Saturday, December 9, 2017, 6-9pm
Afro-Cuba: Mystery and Magic of Afro-Cuban Spirituality is a curatorial project by Renato
Miracco – curator, critic and Cultural Attache of the Italian Embassy, Fabian Goncalves
Borrega from the Organization of American States Museum of the Americas in Washington, DC,
Voodoo priestess Salie Ann Glassman. This event is sponsored in part by CUBANOLA & Arte Futuro
Productions. Presented by the NOLA Art Factory as a part of the 2018 Latin American Art &
photography series of cultural influence and artist development project. Anthony Caronia’s
photographs offer a glimpse into altars, sacrifices, pobsession, dances, initiation. and the
cleansing ritual, captured in black and white. Afro-Cuba invites viewers to consider the
adaptation of roots, self-identity, and the attraction of a religion that doesn’t necessarily
distinguish between the sacred and the secular. This exhibition is presented in
collaboration with the OAS Secretariat for Access to Rights and Equity in celebration of the
Plan of Action for the Decade for People of African Descent, and is held under the
patronage of the Permanent Observer Mission of Italy to the Organization of American States.
Limited edition prints of 3 and exhibition book will be for sale at the exhibit
Santeria Music.
