About this workshop:
Known for its velvety blacks and rich tonal range the first platinum/palladium prints were made in the 1860s. As technology and chemistry has improved over the 100+ years photographers are still drawn to the process for its rich blacks and striking dynamic range. Join James O’Connell in the dark room as he leads you through the steps to creating your own hand-coated Platinum Palladium prints. Each student will need two submit two images when registering. We will be working on smaller prints in this workshop so that we can practice coating, experiment with chemistry, and perfect our prints. This is a great entry point into the deep world of Platinum/Palladium printing.
All chemistry and supplies have been donated by Bostick & Sullivan.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open to all who are interested in learning and practicing Platinum Palladium printing.
Class Preparation
Students will need to select and submit two images to James@bostick-Sullivan.com to be converted to digital negatives before the class begins. Images must be black and white and at least 360 dpi. Email James with questions.
About the Instructor
James O’Connell is a photographer based in Santa Fe New Mexico. James has been working for Bostick & Sullivan for over 2 years exploring all of the alt processes. Along with being the lab manager at Bostick & Sullivan James runs a tintype studio in Santa Fe.
