Akasha Rabut’s series Southern Riderz captures the vibrant lives of a group of urban cowboys in New Orleans called The Game Changers. The Game Changers emerged from a tradition of black cowboys in the South and particularly in New Orleans – Bill Picket being an idol and hero within the group. Rabut finds The Game Changers early Sunday mornings, before the second line parades fill the streets of New Orleans proper, in a small community called Bridge City located across the Mississippi River from New Orleans. Here, The Game Changers stable and train their horses, and on Sunday morning, they prepare and groom them for the festive second line later that day, where they are expected and excited to make an appearance.
