Of Human Bonds

The Creative Alliance of New Orleans presents Of Human Bonds, an exhibition showing the work of three photographers investigating different aspects of the human condition and the struggles to attain equilibrium in lives full of inequities.
Marti Corn: Out of Darkness The photographs and gathered stories in this body of work are based on the lives of refugees who have managed to find a life outside of camps and the people dedicated to helping them. All the people in these portraits now make their lives in Houston, TX, which has welcomed more refugees than any other city in the country.
Ashley Lorraine: Black Men in America Lorraine’s images utilize the American flag as a metaphor for the challenges facing black men in this country. The flag, meant to represent freedom and equality, is often a mockery to men of color. These portraits ask the viewer to remember and consider the continued struggles that face these subjects.
Joe Quint: It Takes Us. As a response to the escalating gun violence in America, Quint set out across the country photographing and recording stories of those directly impacted by violence. By giving public voice to those experiencing the trauma and sorrow left by violent acts, viewers are made to feel emotionally connected to them. This bond can, in turn, energize people to take action that will lead to meaningful positive change.
The Creative Alliance of New Orleans‘ mission is to provide training, education, and information for creative artists, cultural producers, and the community, to protect our cultural legacy, and to promote the revitalization of the city as a cultural and economic center.
