Curator’s Talk with Richard McCabe
Revival: Historical Processes in Contemporary Photography focuses on contemporary artist who are utilizing 19th century photographic methods. In a one-hour lecture curator Richard McCabe will discuss the threads of modern alchemy in an increasingly digital age. McCabe will talk about the artists and works he selected for the exhibition. Using images in the show as examples he will elaborate on the processes employed by the featured photographers: including cyanotypes, tintypes, wet-plate collodion, ambrotypes gum-bichromate and platinum prints. He will also discuss his own interest and involvement with historic photographic processes. Immediately following McCabe’s talk featured artist Bruce Schultz will demonstrate wet and dry plate photographic methods.
Bio
Richard McCabe was born in Mildenhall, England and grew up in the American South. McCabe received an MFA in Studio Art from Florida State University in 1998. In the last 12 years has lived and worked in New York City and New Orleans, Louisiana. Currently, McCabe works as the Chief Preparator at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and as an Associate Professor of Art at Xavier University. He continues to pursue his own art, working primarily in photography, painting, and installation.
