PhotoNOLA is proud to present Northern Camellia, by Natasha Sanchez, as our newest Collectors Club Print.

Natasha Sanchez is a New Orleans-based photographer, songwriter, and educator. For more than a decade, Sanchez has been creating lumen prints, a camera-less photogram technique with origins in photography’s earliest experiments. In her words: “One aspect of this process I truly love is that each print is a unique impression of natural elements, of light. The exposure becomes an educated guess relative to the conditions of the day, subject matter and paper, with the result illuminating a new way of seeing and looking at the world.”  The featured print, Nothern Camellia, memorializes a found camellia blossom, plucked from the sidewalk on an autumn day.

“Each print requires taking a risk, there is an understanding that the outcome isn’t always possible to control… I’ve often thought of this image as an “impossible” print with its level of detail among its contrasts. The limited edition of 100 (plus five artist proofs) is an archival pigment print, featuring an 9×7” image on 12×10” hot press, cotton rag paper. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist, and available for $100 plus shipping.

The PhotoNOLA Collectors Club was established in 2013, as a fundraising initiative with a mission to encourage collecting. Each year we partner with a photographer to offer a limited edition print, giving the public an opportunity to collect art at an accessible price point. Proceeds support the programming initiatives of PhotoNOLA, a volunteer-run photography festival.
