In this day-long workshop participants will create prose and self-portraiture to explore the unspoken truths, struggles, and stories of our lives. Lindeka Qampi will lead artists in both writing and photographic prompts to help participants reveal what lies beyond appearances and invite personal reflection. Lindeka will work with participants individually to produce their own self-portrait(s).

Lindeka Qampi is a South African photographer whose intimate, unfiltered images capture township life, womanhood, and resilience. In 2006, she made photography her career after joining a consortium of photographers known as Iliso Labantu. In 2014 she co-created PhotoXP with fellow South African photographer and visual activist Zanele Muholi, introducing photography as a life skill and empowering tool to young women. In 2015, Qampi began photographing herself and immediate family for the series Inside My Heart. Qampi’s work is exhibited internationally and is part of many public and private collections including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She is the co-recipient of the Brave Award (with Zanele Muholi, 2016) and the Mbokodo Award for Creative Photography (2015). Qampi mentors emerging photographers, using her lens to amplify community voices and drive social change.
