The New Orleans Photo Alliance is accepting applications for its 2019 Michael P. Smith Grant. Emerging and established photographers residing in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida are eligible to apply. One photographer will be awarded the $3,000 grant and the opportunity to exhibit in the New Orleans Photo Alliance Gallery, and two additional finalists will be recognized. The subject matter for the proposed project is not limited to the Gulf Coast region.

Submissions requirements include a portfolio of 20 to 25 images, a statement explaining the project and proposed use of grant funds, and a bio or CV. There is a $25 submission fee. Complete details and guidelines can be found here.
The Michael P. Smith Fund for Documentary Photography (MPS Fund) was estsablished by the New Orleans Photo Alliance in 2009 to honor the life and work of Michael P. Smith, one of New Orleans’ most legendary and beloved documentary photographers. The annual grant offers project support and exhibition opportunities to Gulf Coast photographers whose work combines artistic excellence and a sustained commitment to a cultural documentary project. Previous recipients of the MPS Grant are: Anastasia Samoylova, Stacy Kranitz, Annie Flanagan, Cate Sampson, Brandon Thibodeaux, Andrew Kaufman, Kael Alford, Scott Dalton, and Jonathan Traviesa.
