Photographers are invited to submit images for an exhibition of candles in honor of Judy Sherrod (July 6, 1956 – July 28, 2017). The installation will be on display during PhotoNOLA in the International House lobby from December 7-10, 2017.
In Santeria tradition white candles are used to elevate spirits and bring peace, and for devotions in remembering and contacting departed souls. Those who knew Judy are invited to send up to three images for consideration. Selected images will be printed and displayed on the glass jar candles, to be lit each night of the festival.
We would love for this installation to bring together a broad and colorful array of works inspired by, encouraged by, appreciated by Judy. The images can be works that remind you of her, or works that were influenced by her in any way – the interpretation is entirely up to you.
Due to cylindrical shape of candles, vertical (7×5) or square (5×5) images will work best.
Submission deadline: Nov 15, 2017
